pablo_timetogoHere’s an awesome list of free image sites and image tools:

I particularly enjoyed playing with the Pablo tool (https://buffer.com/pablo). It’s an online tool by Buffer that allows you to add text to images and post to social media. Easy to use.

Another cool tool : Social Image Resizer Tool . The landing page includes info on best sizes for social media type. Great info.

02.15.15 on visual thinking for eLearning

Gecko with a flowerIf I had a sabbatical coming up …. wishful thinking …. or maybe … retirement??? … keep dreaming …. or just more free time …..

I would love to experiment and explore more visual thinking techniques. Once again, Tom Kuhlmann has provided the inspiration and the resources … now to find the time!

Check out Tom’s “The Essential Guide to Visual Thinking for eLearning ” blog post this week:

Also … I got caught up (again!!) in Dan Roam’s “Napkin Academy” videos:

Oh darn. I have to get back to marking. Hopefully I can explore more this summer )-:

10.18.14. Blackboard and Lynda.com

tips_bb200pxWe finally got a college subscription to Lynda.com this year. Yay! It was getting a bit costly for me to subscribe on my own. It also means that I can share the videos with my students in my courses. I have incorporated a number of the videos into my online and hybrid courses, and I use them in the classroom, too.

I came across a great tip from DePaul U on how to link to Lynda.com video clips. The instructions are for D2L, but they also work with Blackboard. Check it out at:

10.13.14. Tools for Learning

Swiss army knife
The Top 100 Tools for Learning 2014 by Jane Hart is now available. I find this to be a great resource for checking up on any tools I might have missed over the year. I also enjoy the analysis to see trends in the use and popularity of the tools. Jane always does a wonderful job of gathering, analysing and presenting this information. Great job, Jane! Thanks.

09.13.14. Instructional Tips for Online and FTF

tips_000036667420800cropI’m teaching both online and FTF this year, so these “Instructional Techniques for Maintaining Learner Focus” are good reminders for both venues:

http://www.langevin.com/blog/2014/09/03/5-instructional-techniques-for-maintaining-learner-focus/

This article entitled “Make the Most of the First Day of Class” was also timely as I step back in the classroom:

For my online/elearning persona here are some good tips, too:

Great reminders!

09.09.14. Scenario Tool and Activity

An “oldie, but goodie” from Cathy Moore:

http://blog.cathy-moore.com/2011/07/sample-branching-scenario-cool-tool/

The above post describes and reviews a tool for creating scenarios. I think the best part is the learning activity that Cathy included in the posting. Very brilliant. Check it out at:

https://s3.amazonaws.com/cathymooremedia/zeko.html

I was reminded of the above post by Cathy’s most recent post entitled “3 ways to save gobs of time when designing training“. Cathy suggests that “an intriguing, challenging activity often works perfectly well as text” or “focus on challenge, not bling”. So true!
