08.07.14. Blended eLearning Toolkit Course – deja vu

blenderA great resource: https://blended.online.ucf.edu/blendkit-course-schedule/

Very similar to our old OT5 course! Maybe it’s time to dust it off and bring it back (-:

I use this model in the development of my hybrid/blended courses and it still works well for me.

04.25.2014. Quotes About eLearning

render of a neutral designed tablet computer.I’m wrapping up the semester today and moving onto a few online projects for the spring semester. Yay! Moving back into the classroom this year has been refreshing (I really did enjoy working ftf with students again), but I also missed my eLearning work. It’s been my focus for the last 10 years and giving it up last year was a difficult decision. Luckily, I think I have found a way to balance both options as I move forward. As I immerse myself back into this area, here are a few quotes:

“eLearning doesn’t just “happen”! It requires careful planning and implementation.” – Anonymous

from “23 Inspirational eLearning Quotes For eLearning Professionals” by Christopher Pappas. Thanks!

03.16.2014. on synchronous learning

A very timely look at synchronous learning:

http://onlinelearninginsights.wordpress.com/2014/03/09/the-next-big-thing-in-online-education-learning-in-real-time/

For one of my current projects, I’m struggling with how to teach Excel to students in an online environment. In a FTF class, we do lots of demos and one-on-one assistance during labs. I think synchronous demos or tutorials could be effective in the online course. I’ve been requesting the tools for real-time learning for years (remember Horizon Live?) and while they are available for admin purposes (ie. meetings) they are still not on freely available for teaching and learning. Strange. Tools like Google hangout may be the answer. Yay.

02.25.14 on Learning

This article contains good information and references to review when designing for learning (and I love the title 🙂 ):

“Learning Theories Gone Wild” – http://www.bottomlineperformance.com/learning-theories-gone-wild-urban-myths-can-hurt-learning-designs/

This article includes references to the work of Ruth Clark (elearning and the Science of Instruction), Will Thalheimer (http://www.willatworklearning.com/) and John Medina (Brain Rules). These are three of my top “go to” gurus for learning design.
